From Two Suitcases to Building a Life in Las Vegas
I’ve never believed that where you begin has to determine where you end up.
My name is Tommy Xavier Nguyen, and before I was a Realtor, an entrepreneur, or the founder of Good Energy Realty, I was the oldest son of Vietnamese refugees who learned very early what responsibility feels like.
My family’s story began with sacrifice.
My parents had already experienced what it meant to leave one country behind in search of safety, stability and opportunity. I was born and raised in Germany, but as the oldest son, I grew up understanding that family wasn’t simply something you belonged to.
Family was something you carried.
There were expectations. There were responsibilities. There were struggles. And there was an understanding that sometimes you had to become strong before you felt ready.
Eventually, my own life would require that strength.
At approximately 20 years old, I immigrated to the United States with two suitcases to my name and the weight of my family’s future on my shoulders.
I didn’t arrive with a perfectly mapped-out life.
I arrived knowing that somehow, I had to figure it out.
And I did.
That chapter of my life taught me something about myself that I carry into everything I do today:
Pressure doesn’t make me run.
Pressure makes me focus.
When people depend on you, you learn how to make decisions even when the answers aren’t obvious. You learn how to remain calm when circumstances aren’t. You learn to adapt quickly, solve problems and keep moving forward.
I didn’t learn resilience from a motivational quote.
I learned it from life.
My Roots
Being the son of Vietnamese refugees gave the word home a meaning that goes far beyond real estate for me.
Long before I understood property values, mortgages or contracts, I understood that a home could represent something much bigger.
Safety.
Belonging.
Stability.
Opportunity.
A new beginning.
My family’s journey taught me that sometimes changing where you live can change the trajectory of an entire family.
Growing up in Germany with Vietnamese roots and eventually building my life in America also taught me how to exist between different cultures, perspectives and ways of seeing the world.
It made me curious.
It made me adaptable.
And it gave me empathy for people who are stepping into unfamiliar territory.
Because I’ve been there.
At 20, I Started Over
When I immigrated to the United States, I wasn’t simply changing cities.
I was changing countries, cultures and the direction of my life.
I had two suitcases, ambition and a tremendous amount of responsibility.
Starting over somewhere unfamiliar forces you to discover what you’re made of.
You learn to communicate.
You learn to take chances.
You learn to build relationships.
You learn how to make something work when there isn’t an instruction manual sitting in front of you.
And perhaps most importantly, you learn that nobody else can build the life you envision for you.
You have to participate in creating it.
As the oldest son, my decisions weren’t always only about me.
I knew what it felt like to carry responsibility for other people. I knew what it meant to think beyond my own immediate comfort and consider what would create a better future for my family.
Eventually, I learned how to help move my family from one country to another and navigate the enormous decisions that came with starting a new chapter of our lives.
Looking back, I realize that experience prepared me for my career in ways I couldn’t have understood at the time.
Because today, families come to me while making some of the largest financial and life decisions they may ever make.
They’re moving across states.
They’re relocating their families.
They’re buying their first homes.
They’re selling homes filled with memories.
They’re trying to decide where their children will grow up.
They’re sometimes leaving everything familiar behind to start again somewhere new.
I understand the weight of those decisions because I’ve lived my own version of them.
I’ve Always Been an Entrepreneur at Heart
Long before becoming a Realtor, I had an entrepreneurial spirit.
I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of creating something from nothing—taking an idea, believing in it and then doing the work required to make it real.
Entrepreneurship taught me lessons no classroom ever could.
It taught me that ideas are easy.
Execution is different.
It taught me how to communicate with people, serve customers, solve problems and keep moving when things don’t happen as quickly as you imagined.
Most importantly, it taught me ownership.
When something works, you learn from it.
When something doesn’t work, you learn even more.
You adjust.
You rebuild.
You keep going.
That mentality became part of me long before Good Energy Realty ever existed.
Strength Became Part of My Life, Too
There is another side of me that surprises people sometimes.
I love strength training.
Powerlifting and bodybuilding became important parts of my personal development—not simply because of how they change the body, but because of what they demand from the mind.
A heavy weight doesn’t care how motivated you felt that morning.
You either prepared for it or you didn’t.
Progress requires consistency.
Strength is built through repetition.
And sometimes the greatest changes happen so gradually that you don’t notice them until you look back and realize how far you’ve come.
I’ve carried that lesson into almost everything I do.
Strong energy creates strong decisions.
But as much as I value strength, I’ve also learned that strength doesn’t always have to be loud.
Sometimes strength looks like patience.
Sometimes it looks like compassion.
Sometimes it means knowing when to push—and when to become still.
That balance would eventually become an important part of my identity.
Understanding Energy Changed the Way I Live
Alongside the entrepreneur and the ambitious part of me has always existed a much more introspective side.
Over the years, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the concept of Qi — or Chi — the life-force energy that has been recognized in Eastern traditions for thousands of years.
Through practices including Qigong, Reiki, meditation and energy work, I’ve learned to become more intentional about the energy I bring into my everyday life.
For me, Good Energy isn’t about pretending everything is positive.
Life isn’t always positive.
Business isn’t always easy.
Real estate certainly isn’t always calm.
Good Energy is about how you choose to show up inside those circumstances.
It’s the energy you bring into a room.
The way you respond when something goes wrong.
The ability to remain centered when everyone else is reacting.
The intention behind your actions.
The environment you create around yourself.
And the way another human being feels after interacting with you.
I actively bring those principles into my personal life and my business.
Not instead of strategy.
Alongside it.
I believe deeply in both.
Intuition and information.
Energy and execution.
Calmness and strength.
Peace and ambition.
Those aren’t contradictions to me.
They’re balance.
Then Las Vegas Became Home
Eventually my journey brought me to Las Vegas, Nevada.
And somewhere along the way, the city became much more than another place on my map.
It became home.
Las Vegas is often portrayed through the Strip—the lights, casinos, entertainment and energy that the world knows.
But living here showed me another Las Vegas.
I discovered the neighborhoods.
The parks.
The mountains.
The master-planned communities.
The families building their lives here.
The people relocating here hoping for a new beginning.
And the incredible variety of lifestyles that exist beyond Las Vegas Boulevard.
Perhaps because I had already experienced what it meant to move across borders and rebuild my own life, I understood something about the feeling of arriving somewhere and wondering:
Could I build my next chapter here?
I had.
And eventually I realized I wanted to help other people do the same.
That realization opened the door to real estate.

Why My Story Matters to the Families I Represent
I don’t share my story simply because I want people to know where I came from.
I share it because where I came from directly influences the Realtor I am today.
I’ve moved between countries.
I’ve started over.
I’ve carried responsibility for people other than myself.
I’ve experienced the pressure of knowing that a decision doesn’t only affect you—it can affect the people you love most.
I’ve helped navigate my own family’s transition from one country to another.
So when someone trusts me with a relocation, a home purchase, a sale or the next chapter of their family’s life, I understand the gravity of that responsibility.
Buying a home isn’t simply choosing bedrooms, bathrooms and square footage.
For many families, it may be the largest financial decision of their lifetime.
It can affect their finances, their children, their commute, their lifestyle, their sense of security and the wealth they build for years to come.
That’s not something I take lightly.
And it’s one of the reasons I believe my life prepared me exceptionally well to sit beside people during those decisions.
Pressure doesn’t intimidate me.
Responsibility doesn’t scare me.
I’ve carried both for a very long time.
My job is to help bring clarity, strategy and calm energy into moments that can otherwise feel overwhelming.
The Good Energy Realtor
When I entered real estate, I knew fairly quickly that I didn’t want to build my career by simply becoming another name and headshot on a business card.
I wanted to build something that actually represented me.
That became The Good Energy Realtor® and Good Energy Realty LLC.
The name wasn’t created because it sounded catchy.
It came from the different chapters of my life finally meeting in one place.
The oldest son who learned responsibility early.
The immigrant who arrived with two suitcases and learned to start again.
The entrepreneur who believes in building.
The athlete who believes in discipline.
The student of energy who believes in balance and intention.
The Realtor who understands that behind every contract is a human being making one of life’s biggest decisions.
And the ambitious part of me that still believes there is so much more to create.
Good Energy became the bridge between all of them.
Building Something Bigger Than a Real Estate Career
My first year in real estate reinforced something I already believed:
Trust cannot be manufactured. It has to be earned.
I started creating content before I had some enormous track record to point toward.
Real estate education.
Market updates.
Home tours.
Encouraging messages.
Mini meditations through Good Energy Reset.
I wanted people to receive something useful from me even when they weren’t ready to buy or sell a house.
And then something happened that meant a great deal to me.
People started paying attention.
People started trusting me.
One of my early clients had followed my videos before deciding to work with me. That relationship eventually became one of my first successful transactions.
That experience validated something much bigger than a marketing strategy.
People don’t only choose what you do. They choose how you make them feel.
Within my first year, I closed transactions, helped clients navigate homeownership, continued building my brand and was recognized by my brokerage as a Best New Agent mentee.
I’m proud of those milestones.
But I don’t consider them the destination.
They’re evidence that the foundation is working.
Because I am not trying to build a career that looks successful for a moment.
I’m trying to build something that lasts.
I Am Still Becoming
I think this may be the most important part of my story:
It isn’t finished.
I’m still learning.
Still building.
Still strengthening my body and mind.
Still deepening my understanding of energy and balance.
Still becoming a better entrepreneur.
Still becoming a better Realtor.
Still discovering what Good Energy can become.
There are goals I haven’t reached yet.
There are rooms I haven’t walked into yet.
There are people I haven’t helped yet.
There are versions of myself I haven’t met yet.
And that excites me.
I don’t believe growth requires rejecting who you used to be.
I believe every version of yourself can teach you something that prepares you for the next one.
Germany gave me my beginnings.
My Vietnamese roots gave me perspective.
My parents’ journey taught me sacrifice.
Being the oldest son taught me responsibility.
Immigrating taught me courage.
Starting over taught me resilience.
Entrepreneurship taught me ownership.
Strength training taught me discipline.
Qigong and energy work taught me balance.
Las Vegas gave me a place to build.
Real estate gave me another way to serve.
And Good Energy gave me a way to bring all of those pieces together.
From Carrying Two Suitcases to Carrying a Bigger Vision
I sometimes think about that 20-year-old version of myself arriving in America.
Two suitcases.
A new country.
An uncertain future.
And a tremendous amount of responsibility.
He didn’t know exactly where life would take him.
But he knew he was going to build something.
Today, I’m Tommy Xavier Nguyen — The Good Energy Realtor®.
A Realtor.
An entrepreneur.
An immigrant.
The oldest son of refugees.
An athlete.
A believer in energy, intention and balance.
A creator.
A student of life.
And someone with a very big vision for what comes next.
I’ve learned that you don’t have to choose between being grounded and dreaming big.
You don’t have to choose between kindness and strength.
You don’t have to choose between inner peace and outward success.
You can carry peace within you while relentlessly pursuing the life you know you’re capable of creating.
That is who I am.
That is where I came from.
And that is the foundation behind everything I’m building with Good Energy.
Peaceful, but ambitious.
Grounded, but always growing.
Grateful for where I’ve been—and nowhere near finished.
